Have we missed the foundation of Yoga?

Are we who we want to be?

Don’t we all find ourselves asking this question? What are the limitations or the threats we face that stop us from being who we truly aspire to be?

What is a threat? A threat can be anything that causes us to respond with a fight, flight, or freeze mode.

We come across various threats in our lives; threats of Inadequacy, Inequality, Humiliation, Financial threats, threats in our relationships, and so on. We often struggle with the question, ‘What to do with my life?’

More often than not, we turn to Yoga or spirituality hoping it will help us get rid of the threats we face. Seeking knowledge is wonderful but one shouldn’t turn to Yoga with the expectation of finding one’s ‘purpose’

It is necessary to understand that when we get clarity regarding our purpose, Yoga starts making sense. It becomes easier for us to understand all the relevant information that comes from Yoga.

Prior to that, we have to keep in mind that to make learning Yoga easy and sensible for us, we have to put in the work, every ounce of faith and courage into finding the directions that will lead us to our purpose.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras states, ‘Athah Yoga Anushasanam’ which roughly translates to, ‘And now begins the discipline of Yoga.’ It apparently suggests that there is something before that, before the discipline of Yoga starts. Guruji, GURUPASHUPATI mentioned that upon asking his Guru MAHAVATAR BABAJI, he responded with the same understanding of there being more to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

He continued, before Yoga there is nothing but how a person’s story is tied to the ‘threats’ that are prominent in one’s life.

As already mentioned earlier, there are various threats we come face to face in our lives, be it threats to sustainability, threats to our environment, or threats to any projects that we take up. All these threats eventually become the story of a person’s life that has to be neutralized by none other than the individual facing the threats. Really, who else could?

Once the decision has been made to work on the same, the individual doesn’t have to wonder ‘how’ to do it, because acquiring knowledge is easy. It is SHAKTI’s grace that makes it child’s play.

One of her greatest qualities is when we have ICCHA SHAKTI, (the decision or the hunger to neutralize our threats), JNANA SHAKTI comes to us. JNANA SHAKTI is the ability to have the knowledge and the skills to do something, anything! Eventually, it is followed by KRIYA SHAKTI

When we have clarity about what we want to do with our lives and we desire it passionately enough, we become UNSTOPPABLE. As GURU PASHUPATI always says, ‘When we know and we desire, we can do.’

These are the three forms of SHAKTI; knowing, desiring, and doing. We worship SHAKTI as a Goddess, we think she is a woman in the sky, but it is much simpler yet much more intricate than the notions we have.

SHAKTI is all within us and for us to be able to activate it, we must begin by nullifying the threats we face.

Listing our threats down with HONESTY is crucial because ignoring them or trying to suppress them will lead us to nothing but FEAR. Fear makes us believe as though we are doing something, although we are not. NOTHING can be accomplished by being FEARFUL.

Once we are determined to neutralize our threats, the desire to do so will lead us to the knowledge we seek, the knowledge we need. It can come to us in any form; reels, books, quotes, people, this blog that you’re reading. It is one of the laws of Nature.

As mentioned earlier, when the foundation of ICCHA SHAKTI is established, JNANA SHAKTI follows. This is a promise of Yoga. Eventually, we begin to understand that it is impossible for us to neutralize our threats without working on our environment. Therefore, when we start working on our environment, we can be certain of impacting the lives of many people around us while growing and learning individually.

A change in PARADIGM takes place when we start working on ourselves. Things start changing for us and that is when we are able to nullify our threats which ultimately becomes our story,

OUR CHARACTER helps us understand who we are in this world or who we truly want to be.

And then, Yoga begins. Only then can we start understanding the TECHNIQUES and the TEACHINGS of Yoga. Guruji, GURU PASHUPATI says that he cannot teach YOGA until and unless we neutralize or nullify the THREATS we currently have.

This is where SIDDHA YOGA begins wherein the proper guidance of a GURU is significant.

Why is having a GURU to guide us so crucial?

Although there are numerous reasons why, a GURU saves us a lot of ‘time’.  A GURU has experiences beyond anything we can imagine. It takes unfathomable courage and patience to become a GURU.
A GURU is a GURU because he has lived and encountered so many aspects of life. It undoubtedly takes a lot of equilibrium, benevolence and prowess to take on the responsibility for guiding people like us.

When we are fortunate enough to find such a GURU, we can ask the questions we have or the directions that we are looking for. A GURU can be the most upgraded version of any search engine that we find on the Internet. GURU always knows, because He is always willing to teach and knowledge comes from learning; from every aspect of life; every failure, every victory, every loss and every achievement.

The greatest threat for a GURU is not being able to give us an answer. That is the kind of ‘lineage’ that our Guruji, GURU PASHUPATI comes from where he can ask his GURUS anything and everything. Therefore, that is the kind of GURU, he has become over the years with an answer to everything, the kind of GURU who is ever willing to give sensible answers to all the questions we could possibly have.

This is precisely what the tradition of YOGA is. This is what a GURU-SHISHYA relationship is and the system which is to be kept alive and thriving.

The hardcore discipline of Yoga, the science of Yoga and the teachings that transform us to become a superhuman being with SIDDHIS, cannot be taught unless we have nullified and neutralized all our threats, creating a peaceful environment to do the same.

Hence, it will be wise for all of us to not turn to YOGA or spirituality for escaping our material troubles. Instead, we must work on our material threats, and only then should we walk on the path of spirituality or YOGA. Because only then begins the study of YOGA.
